Burnt File Two: Survival.txt

The next two days were split between me panicking and trying to figure out what my next steps were. After enough time, I gave up on whoever left me here coming back to get me, so the question shifted to how do I survive here indefinitely until help does arrive? Checking the minibar, there was a few assorted fruits, a bag of chips, a couple bottles of water and soda, and a few small bottles of liquor. All of these had egregiously gouged prices on them, of course, but if I’m trapped in here, I don’t really have much room to care. I figured if I rationed out the food and drinks properly, I could last maybe just over two weeks. I also left the phone running on speaker phone. I would press the front desk button, wait through the static until it hung itself up, and then redial. I did check the laptop to see if I could reach out to anyone over the internet, but there’s no service in here. Of course. I tried every method I could think of to get the door down, but nothing worked. I checked the hinges to see if there was a way to take it off, but strangely the screws didn’t have slots to put a driver in, so there was no way to get any leverage on them.

I spent most of my time sat next to the door listening for someone to walk by, but no one ever did. No families on vacation, no cleaning service, nothing. Eventually I gave up hope for someone to come or for someone to pick up the phone and tried to get some sleep. At least a bed was provided for me so I could get some proper sleep. After a while, I was able to drift of to sleep, where I had the strangest dream. I found myself in a dense forest that I didn’t recognize, long past sundown. I walked for a while through the brush, occasionally seeing what looked to be a small critter running arround, though I never got a good look at any of them. It was peaceful, a small respite from my dire situation. I sat down next to a tree hoping to just take in the stillness of the forest, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was what looked like a grey skinned man in a dark green shirt, long thick pants, gloves, and a hat that bore resemblance to something you would expect a forest ranger to wear. I got up and called out, which seemed to startle the man. He turned around revealing that he lacked no face, just a glowing blue light where the details should be.

A sudden sound woke me up, the door slamming. I jumped out of the bed and ran to try and open the door— locked. I pounded on the door, shouting for whoever was in the room to come back. But nobody did. Looking through the peephole, I couldn’t see anyone in the hallway. I’ve been in this room for what felt like three days, hard to tell since the clock on my laptop was locked at 1:45 Am. Regardless of how long I’ve actually been here, my hopes were beginning to rapidly dwindle and I was really beginning to consider the fact that this room was going to be my tomb. That person, whomever they may have been, was the only hint I have gotten of freedom since I woke up in this room. And now they were gone, without a trace of their existence except for the echo of the door slamming in my mind.

I’d hate to admit it, but I began to quietly sob at this point. I was overtired, stressed out of my mind, and ready to accept that I would never hear or see anyone I knew again. I know I've burned alot of bridges with, well everyone but-

I decided to crack open one of the liquor bottles in the minibar to try and numb whatever it was I felt. I had planned to save those for later, but now seemed a good time as any. As I looked towards the bar, I noticed a framed picture was put up on the previously vacant wall. Abstract art that I had no desire to look into at the time. Who ever that was had come into the room to put up art, great. I opened the door to the fridge, only to be caught off guard by several fruits that weren’t there before. I had already eaten the lime provided, but it seemed like it was— restocked? With several other fruits added to the fridge as well. The culprit seemed obvious, the same person who just put up that painting. Whoever just left the room. I didn’t know if I should be happy that I got the food I was going to need for the coming days, or worried that for whatever reason, the person keeping me here wants to keep me alive and well fed.
